DOUG PERRY, Honorary President
Started his career with the Post Office before joining the Police, distinguishing himself as a front line officer and in the CID, before being retained as a consultant by three Police Forces. Qualified as a teacher for adults and children, and after 25 years’ experience was honoured to be presented to Her Majesty the Queen for services to the disabled. On his retirement elected as a Town and District Councillor, and was Mayor of Saffron Walden besides serving as Chairman of the Licensing Committee for UDC for many years. Proud to accept ULODA’s invitation to be Honorary President in 2016, has always had the vision to unite the trade so that it speaks with ”a single voice” and to encourage and stimulate working in partnership with the council, its officers and elected members.
Barry Drinkwater, Chairman
One of the four founders of ULODA in 2004. Served as Chairman until 2013. Stood down due to ill health. Continued as Joint Vice Chairman with Richard Ellis at request of newly elected Chairman. Business partner at Direct Connections. Licensed by UDC in 2002 as a PH operator and driver with ”mini-limo” BMW 3 Series saloon, upgraded later to 5 Series saloon then estate. Worked for over 10 years as ”one man band” and regular subcontractor to Flying Hire, Carriages, Five Star and Airlux Executive Cars.
Richard Ellis, Vice Chairman
A member of ULODA since 2011 – very soon elected on to the Executive Committee as Secretary, and later as (Joint) Vice Chair Richard is the owner of Barnston Luxury Travel Ltd, founded in 2004 and proudly serving the people in and around Great Dunmow ever since.
Now running a fleet of 6 luxury People Carriers. Having held a UDC licence for 25years Richard has been a private hire driver for Liberty Cars, Eastern Cars & Five Star amongst others.
Richard has a wealth of experience in the industry.
Whilst formerly in the motor trade, now NVQ Trained, a CPC Holder with several City and Guilds Qualifications.
Dannie Westbury-Barnes, Secretary
Joined ULODA in 2016 before being co-opted onto the Executive Committee at the AGM late the same year. Has a wealth of trade experience, having previously been Secretary to the local association working in partnership with Stevenage Borough Council. Founded Diamond Transport (Saffron Walden) Ltd in March 2015 and now has 20 PHVs and 20 drivers licensed by UDC. Joined the taxi trade in 2001 as a sole trader/licensed driver in North Herts and established Diamond Transport (Herts) Ltd in 2010 as a provider of quality transport for clients with special needs. Authorised as a driver and operator by North Herts, Stevenage, and Hertfordshire County Councils, and approved as a PSV operator by the Traffic Commissioner.
Leslie Davidson Treasurer
Leslie Davidson has been a ULODA member since 2007. Became treasurer early 2014. Is a joint director of Airlux Executive Cars Ltd with Neil Davidson. Airlux is a prominent company specialising in large groups for holidays and days out. Our client list is extensive and we deal with countries all over Europe. We are proud to support Bishops Stortford youth Football club.
Ian Cronshaw, Communications Officer
Ian got involved with the transport trade in 2002 with Autohire of Stansted, helping run the school contracts and coach hire business also and was licenced by Uttlesford District Council as a Private Hire driver. He also assisted the owner of Autohire of Stansted to prepare and implement computer systems for his school transport company before the sale of his company to NCS Ltd. He then worked with NCS Ltd assisting in the merging of the two companies.
In 2005 Ian started Stansted Transport Services, a school transport company providing Private Hire cars, coaches and minibuses to Essex and Hertfordshire County Councils under contracts to convey children to and from school. These contracts include special needs children.
Ian was co-opted to the ULODA committee in June 2016, and invited to be Communications Officer.
Kevin Cordall, Executive Member
One of the ”founding fathers” of ULODA in 2004 and Treasurer to 2013. Previously on the committee of the defunct UTDA (Uttlesford Taxi Drivers Association) and a member of the old UTDA taxi forum which met regularly with UDC. Joined the family taxi firm Adtax as an HCV driver in 1975. Formed Five Star in 1988, developed the business into Private Hire and still its principal chauffeur and proud proprietor of Saffron Walden’s premier service provider with a loyal customer base from the local MP to companies to schools to families.
